Pain And Gain

If you remember reading a newspaper report of a crime that was perpetrated by dumb criminals and you could not believe that people could be that stupid, then read this article. Police sting nets alleged drug dealer

This black comedy, starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Anthony Mackie, is based on such an unbelievable true story which was published in the Miami New Times and  reported by Pete Collins, about events that took place from December 1994 through to June 1995, and details the kidnapping, extortion, torture and murders by a group of bodybuilders.

Michael Bay moved his director ‘s chair from his big budget special effects blockbuster “Transformers” to the a Miami gym, where three Miami bodybuilders (Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie) whose scheme to force a millionaire client (Tony Shalhoub) out of his fortune and property, develops into torture, mayhem and murder.

Wahlberg (Boogie Nights, Ted) plays Daniel Lugo, a dimwitted character who enlists his employee Adrian (Mackie), whose steroids use has led to erectile dysfunction, and an ex-con named Paul (“The Rock” Johnson – a fictional character) to help him kidnap and extort his client , Victor Kershaw (Shalhoub), who can best be described as a unlikeable victim.

In this movie you will see Dwayne “ The Rock” Johnson exceed what we have come to expect of his acting skills in previous movies. In “Pain And Gain” he impresses with his performance as a born-again cocaine addict , caught up in this mess. Although some of you might say that the dumb pumped up bodybuilding character might not be a far stretch for him, I just hope we don’t see him playing a tooth fairy any time soon again.

“Pain And Gain ” was definitely a surprisingly good movie and worth 130 minutes of your time. It also reminds us that there is no quick and easy route to financial  security, unless you win the lotto of course.
